Happy Ever After - Help is Now – Ghana
The Ghanaian branch of Happy Ever After – Help is Now - was officially launched in Accra in June 2009. Guest speakers included the General Secretary of the Pan African Writers’ Association, Professor Atukwei Okai and lawyer, publisher and member of the Ghanaian Association of Writers, Dr Ansa Asare.

Professor Okai spoke very movingly about the abject poverty affecting many Ghanaians today and how if nothing is done about the growing literacy problem in the country there will soon be ‘no more readers for our writing.’
Naa Otua spoke passionately about Happy Ever After and our aims and gave our heartfelt thanks to the Ghanaian Writers’ Association for their support and to Nana Opoku Nyarko I for his generous donation of land for the project.

With the kind and generous support of the Trinity Church in Harrow, UK, we are now able to fund programmes in two Ghanaian villages – one teaching children to read and write and the other giving them training in weaving and basket making so that they can begin to earn a living.

At the launch of Happy Ever After in Ghana, Professor Okai also spoke of his desire to see the project rolled out across the whole of Africa via each countries’ Writers’ Associations. Can writers succeed where so far politicians have failed? Watch this space…
